Coco Peat (Coir Pith)
The coconut husk has longer coir fibres, used for making ropes, matting, netting etc. Previously, the non-fibrous material (pith like material) was dumped, but now it is screened to give consistent particle size and organic matter content, and baled for use as an alternative to peat moss. Coir waste from coir fibre industries is washed, heat treated, screened and graded before being processed into coco peat products of various granularity and denseness. Since its introduction to the market, Coir Peat has found uses in many agricultural & horticultural applications – including green construction. It is usually shipped in the form of compressed bales, briquettes, slabs or discs and the end user usually expands and aerates the compressed coco peat by the addition of water
Sunlight, air, water and nutrients are the basic requirements for healthy plant growth. However, a good growth medium like coco peat is a vital link essential for the proper utilisation of nutrients and water.
Hydroponics is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions, without soil. Instead of nutrients in the soil, plants thrive on a nutrient solution which contains the minerals that the plants need. So rather than searching nutrients from the soil your plants are able to get nutrients easily, directly from the nutrient solution. So the plants grown with their roots in the mineral nutrient solution only or in an inert medium, such as cocopeat. Growing media such as coco peat is often used to support the plants and their root systems and perhaps to hold moisture around the roots. Hydroponics gardening is an easy; eco-friendly way to grow wide variety of healthy plants.
- Coir Peat is an excellent medium for plant growth
- It is 100 % natural & has no harmful environmental impact
- Coco Peat, being sustainable and eco-friendly, is used as a substitute to Peat Moss as Peat Moss harvesting is found to be contributing to Global Warming
- Composed Coco peat is used as an Organic Manure
- Coir Peat improves physical & biological condition of soil
- Coir Peat has high moisture retention & improves aeration
- Coir Peat reduces frequency of irrigation and has a better yield
- Coir Peat enhances strong and healthy root system
- Coir Peat contains natural enzymes and plant nutrients
- Coir Peat stimulates the production of phytohormones.
- Coir Peat has hygroscopic properties
- Coir Peat produces crops for up to five years
- Coir Peat is a natural soil less hydroponic growing medium
- It produces top quality high yield vegetables & cut flower crops
- It has pH of 5.2 to 6.8 which is neutral to slightly acidic. This makes it great to be mixed with alkaline garden soil.
- It can store & release nutrients to plants for extended periods
- It has great oxygenation properties which are important for healthy root development.
Coir Peat is used for a wide range of hydroponic crop production throughout the world including: tomato, cucumber, egg plant, capsicum, zucchini, strawberry, melons, carnation, rose, gerbera, gypsophila, lisianthus, chrysanthemum etc.
Industrially, Coco peat is used in manufacturing of particle boards, extraction of natural dyes, as an oil absorbent and as an insulator in the production of fuse plugs.
Other applications include mulching in landscaping and animal bedding as in horse stables.
We at Cocco Origin, offers Coco Peat in the following forms
